What the heck is Green Power?

Can anybody explain to me what Green Power actually is, pertaining to KUB/TVA etc.? I mean, I know what it is supposed to be in theory, just not in reality. I’ve looked over and over the info on their site and am still confused. Why does it cost $4 per block? What happens to the $4? They say it goes to buy alternative energy. From who? What happens if more people pay $4 than the suppliers of the alternative energy can supply? What happens to the alternative energy that is produced if nobody buys it? How do we know it actually makes a dent in the fossil fuel energy consumption and isn’t just a “feel good” $4? Do they count hydroelectric as “Green?”

Pilot wants to add biofuel

This is pretty interesting. I wonder how long before there are enough producers of biofuel to supply companies such as Pilot.

About time…

It is apparently about time for the Democrats to get a shot at running things. Although it is kind of nauseating to think about them in power… Apparently us conserative-types need another wake-up call like back in ‘94, and perhaps listening to Nancy Pelosi for two years will be the prod that gets us to elect some new folks to clean things up in congress. Pipe dream yeah, but I don’t see how the Republicans are going to recover from Woodward’s book and this ridiculous page scandal before the elections.

On the other hand, the ensuing investigations and other bullshit Pelosi and crew will carry on with will probably be even more sickening than I’m expecting it will be. So damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

If the Republicans maintain control, it will be bittersweet. Too bad a bunch of 3rd-party candidates can’t rise up and take over to really throw things out of whack. At least things would be interesting that way!

It’s not about the people, is it?

From this:

“It would give the view that the Senate is a country club rather than representative of a political party and political movement.”

Hey moron! The Senate is representative of the PEOPLE, not a political party or movement. But isn’t that the problem with politics today? No elected official can think for themselves any more. It’s all about “the party.”

Quote of the day

I’m supposed to be working, but instead I ran across this and thought I’d share since it made me laugh:

If Democrats really cared about religion, they’d be Republicans.

Politically homeless

It’s really strange…these days I’m feeling politically homeless. I still consider myself a conservative, I guess, so I really don’t agree with pretty much anything Democrats come up with. But I’m finding that I don’t particularly agree with anything the Republicans are doing either. What’s a fellow to do?

I don’t get it

Just ran across this:

“Brokeback Mountain'’ has become a cultural touchstone for Hollywood depictions of gay love affairs, yet the hubbub over the film may be growing stale as Oscar voters cast their final ballots, O’Neil said. And while “Brokeback Mountain'’ has become a solid box-office success, the gay theme may be off-putting to some Oscar voters, he said.

“Statistically, we know the vast majority of Oscar voters must be straight if they’re at all representative of the general population,'’ O’Neil said. “As much as they admire this movie, it may not feel like it’s their movie. If there is homophobia in Hollywood, it could manifest itself there. Or they could just be sick of gay cowboy jokes.'’

So let me get this, uhm, straight: If Brokeback Mountain doesn’t win an oscar, it’s due to homophobia and/or straight Oscar voters? And NOT because Oscar voters thought another movie was better? That’s what annoys me the most about that movie, I think, is that if somebody doesn’t like it, or it doesn’t get an award, it’s due to homophobia. And that BECAUSE it’s about gay cowboys, it should therefore win everything.

Nutter Butters

Random thought of the day:

Where are we at, as a society, when a package of Nutter Butters has to display rather prominently on the packaging that it is “made with real peanut butter?” As if we would naturally expect a package of “peanut butter sandwich cookies” to contain fake peanut butter. But they sure are good!

Nicole Kidman

Did anybody else catch Nicole Kidman’s reaction (facial expression) during the Grammy Awards last night after Kelly Clarkson won her first award? Then when she realized the camera was on her, she tried to twist it into something more pleasant, but it didn’t work. It was just like Hillary Clinton’s pained expression after Bush mentioned his father and Bill being buddies during the State of the Union.

Brokeback to the Future

Just ran across this, and it was worth a giggle here at the office…
